Example Pitch for Participants

“We are participating in a research study with UNLV that includes a series of surveys; with the goals of improving post-stressful event treatments for adolescents, identifying opportunities for promoting recovery, understanding the utilization of services by survivors, and preventing substance use among adolescents following an incident like the one that brought you in today. It is completely optional, and it can add anywhere between 20 minutes, to an hour and 20 minutes to our time today, but they usually try to keep it around 45 minutes. If you want to find out if you’re eligible, we can arrange for you to speak with a research assistant. They are going to ask you questions that are a bit similar to the questions I ask you–not those of sensitive nature, but just like contact information, name and things like that–and unfortunately I am not able to provide them the answers for you. If you decide you do want to speak with them and they determine you are eligible, you can receive up to $## for participating.”

Compensation for Participants

Participants receive compensation for participating in our study, and will receive a gift card emailed to them after completing their 1-week survey. In total, participants can earn $316 for participating, and it won’t cost them anything to participate. If participants are found ineligible for the study when meeting with our study team, they will not be paid. However, this meeting will be very short, and less than 10 minutes. If they are found eligible, they will receive $40.
